A leaked memo from Howard Schultz
Subject: The Commoditization of the Starbucks Experience
From: Howard Schultz
Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2007 10:39 AM Pacific Standard Time

…”Over the past ten years, in order to achieve the growth, development, and scale necessary to go from less than 1,000 stores to 13,000 stores and beyond, we have had to make a series of decisions that, in retrospect, have lead to the watering down of the Starbucks experience, and, what some might call the commoditization of our brand.”

  1. Sounds like wishful thinking unless…he actually did it and if so…well…he was one of the few. Starbucks sure aint like that out here

  2. Starbucks ain’t like Scott Bedbury or John Moore? Can you be more specific on that? Anyway, I do like their wishful thinking.

  3. I mean in new zealand, starbucks isnt like the ideal portrayed in that quote there. They are all rude and yeah just outright rude. And the coffee sucks…and its expensive….

oh and about the opnly one i agree with is… the very first one…

I mean seriously…would you want to go to a place where the people serving you dont smile…ever! All they do is have their own conversations, dont greet you when you walk in (first rule in working with the public is you greet them and ask how their day is going! How do I know? I worked in a supermarket) And then they dont even thank you for buying their really really bad coffee or say have a nice day.

Customer service is paramount! Fastest way to sink a company is by word of mouth, especially if its bad things being said.

    Hope Ive been more specific…
